--- The Truth about Vapor Pressure/Humidity% --
Recently, I heard someone claiming to use vapor pressure in addition to the percentage of humidity in his program for e.t. prediction. That is like saying he is using temperature in addition to temperature in his calculations. Huh? What did he just say? Exactly! Vapor pressure and humidity are one and the same thing. Nothing more, nothing less. Vapor pressure is the amount of moisture in the air expressed as 'weight', in inches of mercury (inHg.) Humidity% is the identical amount of moisture in the air, except that it is expressed as a percentage.

You see, vapor pressure is the 'wet' part of the barometric pressure. For example, if the barometric pressure is 29.92 inHg, the temperature is 60 degrees, and the humidity is 0%, then the vapor pressure equals 0.000 inHg. Common sense, right? The air is perfectly dry and the air 'weighs' 29.92 inHg. Now, with the same conditions above let's change the humidity to 20%. The air is no longer perfectly dry, so this is 'wet' barometric pressure. The barometric pressure is still 29.92 inHg. However, .104 inHg of that barometric pressure is vapor pressure (moisture, humidity). So, in reality the 'dry' part of the air weighs 29.92 - .104 = 29.816 inHg.

Why would they be implementing the humidity twice you ask? It's called fudging. I haven't seen any prediction program, other than our ET Predictor and RaceLog Pro, that handles the humidity calculation properly. That is one reason the other programs out there use an average of runs. They can't do it accurately enough to predict off of one (1) run. Gee, on average, my car will go 8.923. Not very scientific is it? I guess if you can't do it right, just fudge it.

Another claim that I am hearing states that, with this particular software, and ONLY this particular software, you can enter and track your opponents runs. Wow! I would think that with ANY professionally written (his is not?) database, that this would be possible. For example, with our RaceLog Pro software you simply create a separate OPPONENTS database and enter away. Man, this stuff just blows me away. (Grin)

Since it is very difficult for a novice to be able to tell the difference between hype and truth in advertising, I try to set the record straight. The next time you see similar claims in advertisements you'll know that they are just as confused as you could be if you listened.

If you pay attention to details, like I try to, you can see some amazing things happen with advertising. For example, when we posted our web site and placed on the banner that we were established in 1986, some of our competitors changed theirs to 1986. I am not sure if they were even born in 1986, but I do know they were not established in this industry at that time. And, that is a fact. We are the ET Prediction Experts!
